QUICK FACTS:
- 2014 is the last year that eligible professionals (EPs) can register and begin demonstrating meaningful use (MU) to earn an incentive.
- Providers who fail to demonstrate MU in 2014 will be subject to a negative payment adjustment applied to their Medicare reimbursement in 2015.
- For 2014 only ALL EPs are only required to demonstrate MU for a 90-day reporting period regardless of what stage you are in.
- All providers can be eligible to receive up to $24,000 in incentives if you begin your 90-day MU reporting period by October 1, 2014.
- However, first-time participants must begin their 90-day reporting period by July 1, and attest by October 1 to avoid the negative payment adjustment in 2015.
- Doctors of chiropractic continuing MU in 2014 are required to report during a CMS designated 2014 quarterly reporting period.
In short, EPs must register to participate, become meaningful users of a certified EHR product for a 90-day reporting period in 2014, and successfully attest to MU to qualify for incentive dollars through the Medicare EHR Incentive Program.
