On July 1, the Medicare Conversion Factor goes up by 0.5% which will impact the Medicare allowed amount by some degree. Keep in mind that the CF is only one of the factors used in the calculation of the Medicare allowed – but it should have a positive impact for chiropractic physicians — a slight payment increase for services performed on or after July 1, 2015.
The Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act, which was passed by Congress earlier this year, eliminated the Medicare program’s controversial Sustainable Growth Rate formula. It also established a 0.5% increase in the MPFS conversion factor (CF) starting July 1, 2015, and continuing through year-end. In Transmittal 3259 (issued May 15, 2015), CMS instructed the Medicare contractors to implement this new CF, which is rising from $35.7547 to $35.9335.
