Recent news indicates that CMS may delay implementation of electronic health record (EHR) requirements for the stage 2 and stage 3 meaningful use incentive programs. To date, 60 percent of providers have begun utilizing EHR meaningful use. Doctors of chiropractic have a considerably lower percentage. I have been told that $50 million has been provided to DCs so far, and that $150 million is expected this year from the federal incentive program. The current deadline for providers and hospitals to achieve meaningful use is slated for October 2014, but a new proposal may alter that date in the near future.
